Feature 01 of 07

Find the part, on the 3D model.

Find it. Tap it. Nail it.

Practice for anatomy spotter exams. Each question names a structure. Find it on the 3D model and tap it, with the labels hidden. You see straight away where it was and what it does, and the ones you miss come back.

Fig. 1

A find-the-part question on the heart. The structure is named, the labels are hidden, and the score is kept as you go.

The problem

Exam day comes round fast.

  1. 01

    Flat pictures, real specimens.

Atlas plates and lecture slides show one angle. On the day, the structure is on a specimen seen from another side, and it looks nothing like the diagram.

  2. 02

Not enough time in the lab.

Dissection room hours are short and shared. Most revision happens at home, away from the specimens you will be tested on.

  3. 03

Knowing the name is not finding it.

You can list the branches of the aorta and still freeze when someone points at one. Recall and recognition are different skills.

How it works

Four steps, on any model.

  1. Open a model and press Find it.

Every model has it, from the heart and brain to cells and tissues.

  2. Find the structure and tap it.

Turn and zoom as much as you like. Labels and names stay hidden until you answer.

  3. See where it was.

After each answer the model shows the right structure, with a short description of what it is.

  4. Practise your mistakes.

Your score is kept, and the structures you missed come back in a set of their own.

Why it helps

Why it works.

  • A

    Recognition, not recall.

You practise what a spotter asks of you: finding a structure in three dimensions.

  • B

    Every angle.

Nothing is lined up for you. Learn each structure from the side you did not expect.

  • C

    Short sets.

Sets of 5 or 10 questions fit between lectures.

  • D

    Free to start.

10 new find-the-part questions a day on the demo models with a free account; unlimited find-the-part quizzes on every model with Student Pro.

What is an anatomy spotter?

A practical exam in which structures on specimens, models or images are marked and you name them. It is also called a spot test or steeplechase, and in the US a lab practical or tag test.

How is it different from a normal quiz?

A normal quiz asks you to choose a name. This one gives you the name and asks you to find the structure on the model with the labels hidden, so you practise recognising it in three dimensions.

Which models can I use it on?

Every model in the atlas: whole-body anatomy, organs, cells and tissues. Questions come from the structures each model's study views label.

Is the find-the-part quiz free?

With a free Explore account you get 10 new questions a day on the demo models. Student Pro gives unlimited find-the-part quizzes on every model. Reviewing results and retrying mistakes never use your allowance.

Can I use it without tapping the model?

Yes. If you cannot tap the model, you can answer from a list of unnamed structures instead, each shown on the model as you choose it.
