A long-looped (juxtamedullary) nephron from its renal corpuscle to the collecting duct, with the juxtaglomerular apparatus, the vasa recta and the vessels that supply it. Enlarged for study: a real nephron is about 30–50 mm long and its tubules a few hundredths of a millimetre across.
